The GRAPHISOFT MEP Modeler™ is an Add-On to ARCHICAD®. Firms using ARCHICAD can use the MEP Modeler to create and edit 3D model-based MEP networks (ductwork, pipework and cabling) and coordinate them within the ARCHICAD Virtual Building. The MEP Modeler uses a familiar interface and tools integrated right in the ARCHICAD environment.

Hardware for ARCHICAD 23

Recommended hardware

• Processor: 64-bit processor with four or more cores
• RAM: 16 GB or more is recommended; for complex, detailed models 32 GB or more may be required
• Hard disk: installing ARCHICAD on a SSD drive is recommended; 5 GB free disk space is required for the installation, 10 GB or more is required per active project
• Display: A resolution of 1920 x 1080 or higher is recommended
• Graphics card: Dedicated OpenGL 4.0 compatible graphics card is recommended to fully exploit hardware acceleration capabilities. 2 GB+ VRAM is recommended, opt for 4 GB+ with 4K displays. You can find a list of recommended graphics cards at: http://www.graphisoft.com/videocards

Fast Internet access is needed for connecting to BIMcloud in a remote location and to download updates for ARCHICAD 23.

Protection Key

You will need an ARCHICAD 23 CodeMeter hardware key or CodeMeter Act software protection key to start ARCHICAD 23.

Installation of MEP Modeler for ARCHICAD 23:

Before the installation please check if you have ARCHICAD 23 installed on your computer and that it is not running.
When installing MEP Modeler, you must be logged on as a member of the Administrator Group.

Locate the desired language and OS version in the list below (MEP Modeler Download Packages) and download the installer. Further language versions are uploaded continually.

Start the installer. The installer wizard will guide you through the installation process.
After choosing the apropriate ARCHICAD folder, you will have the option to Install MEP Modeler with a Trial serial.

• Please tick this checkbox if you have a trial serial for ARCHICAD.
• If you don’t check this, MEP will run in Full or in Demo mode provided that a free license is available.

Note: In case of Educational license you don’t have this checkbox and don’t need to add your serial here.

After installing MEP Modeler add-on properly, you can find a PDF version of the MEP Modeler User Guide in the ‘ARCHICAD/Documentation’ folder.

Launch ARCHICAD, then from the main menu, select Options >> Work Environment >> Work Environment Profiles:

From the Profile Options, choose MEP Profile 23 and click on Apply Schemes of Profile button. For further information, consult the MEP FAQ. The MEP Modeller plugin can be tested with all ARCHICAD license types: commercial, demo, trial and educational. Demo licenses have the limitation of not being able to save and copy work. 

To run MEP Modeler with your commercially licensed copy of ARCHICAD, you need a separate license for MEP Modeler.
(This license can either be located on a hardware protection key, or a network license.) The license is automatically reserved when you start any of the MEP functions, provided that a free license is available.
Note: To reserve a MEP Modeler license every time you start ARCHICAD, check the “Reserve MEP Modeler license when ARCHICAD starts” option in MEP Preferences dialog.

If an MEP license is available but has not been automatically reserved for you, you can reserve it manually:

1. From the ARCHICAD Help menu, choose License Information.
2. From the Available Products list, select MEP Modeler.
3. Click Borrow License.

Note: The License Borrowing feature is available only with the CodeMeter NET protection system.

If you do not have a license for MEP Modeler, do one of the following:

• Consult your ARCHICAD distributor to obtain one, or
• Use ARCHICAD in demo mode together with MEP Modeler. To do this, switch ARCHICAD to demo mode by removing the ARCHICAD protection key. MEP Modeler’s full functionality is available.

If you have successfully installed MEP Modeler and begun work, but your MEP license is later missing for any reason while you are working with MEP Modeler, a Warning informs you that you have two choices:

1. Obtain the missing license, then continue working; or
2. Continue working in ARCHICAD, without MEP functionality. (The MEP Library remains available, but MEP functions such as Routing are grayed.)

Notes on Uninstalling:

Windows:
Go to the Windows “Control Panel” and select “Programs and Features” to remove all MEP Add-On components from your computer. You can also browse to your ARCHICAD folder and execute the uninstaller in the Uninstall.MEP subfolder.

macOS:
Browse to your ARCHICAD folder and execute the uninstaller in the Uninstall.MEP subfolder. This will start the uninstaller, which will remove all MEP components from your computer.

Installation of MEP Modeler for ARCHICAD 22 and STAR(T) Edition 2019:

Before the installation please check if you have ARCHICAD 22 or STAR(T) Edition 2019 installed on your computer and that it is not running.
When installing MEP Modeler, you must be logged on as a member of the Administrator Group.

• with an education license, you have to use your your ARCHICAD serial number and the corresponding UserID upon MEP Modeler installation;
• with a trial license, your ARCHICAD trial serial number and UserID must be entered upon installation so that you can use MEP Modeler during your trial period;
• with an ARCHICAD commercial license but without an MEP Modeler license, then you will have to run ARCHICAD in DEMO mode so that you can try MEP Modeler.

• in DEMO mode, choose the first option: “I have a hardware or software key for MEP Modeler”;
• with an education license, choose the second option: “I have a Serial number for MEP Modeler”;
• with a trial license, choose the second option “I have a Serial number for MEP Modeler”;
• with an ARCHICAD commercial license but without an MEP Modeler license, you should be running ARCHICAD in DEMO mode and choosing the first option accordingly.

MEP Modeler Download Packages

MEP Modeler 12 Hotfix (Build 2675)

This MEP Modeler Hotfix ensures the compatibility between MEP Modeler and ARCHICAD in the case that MEP Modeler has been installed after the latest ARCHICAD Hotfix (Build 2675). It updates MEP Modeler add-ons from Build 2327 to Build 2675.

Important install notes:

• The MEP Modeler Hotfix (Build 2675) can only be applied to ARCHICAD packages that are already updated with the equivalent ARCHICAD hotfix (AC12 HotFix #5, Build 2675).
• If the ARCHICAD Hotfix has been applied since installing MEP Modeler, the MEP Modeler Hotfix is not required. MEP Modeler will already have been updated by the ARCHICAD Hotfix so both will have the same build number.

Install steps:

1. Download the Hotfix.
2. Exit ARCHICAD before you start the installer.
3. Make sure that you have administrator rights on your computer.
4. Make sure that components of your MEP Modeler installation were not renamed. The Hotfix will not reinstall missing components and will ignore components that are renamed.
5. If ARCHICAD was installed while connected to a network, make sure you are connected to the same network. This is especially important for laptops.
6. Double-click on the downloaded file to start the installer. To run the installer, Java version 6 has to be installed on your computer. You can install Java version 6 from your original ARCHICAD install CD.
7. Follow the instructions of the wizard to complete the installation.
